Finding Humanity in Medicine’s High-Tech Death Ritual…

Durham, NC – My latest graphic medicine piece was published last week, and I’m grateful to Topic magazine for giving this story a platform. I tried hard to capture the pain and grit of one of the hard decisions that patients and doctors are forced to make in the midst of life-threatening illness. While I believe strongly in the role and usefulness of CPR in the right settings, we see times when it is used primarily for it’s powerful symbolism rather than as an effective medical intervention. We must strive to use it appropriately, and when we do choose to use CPR, we must work to make sure that we don’t allow our technology to overshadow our humanity.

If you’ve recently lost someone you loved, this piece may be too much too soon. Please pass it by for now and save it for another time.  If interested, the link is here.
